School!

When COVID first hit I thought it would be over in a few weeks. I never expected it to effect the upcoming school year (which was 5 months away). When the time came and the schools laid out their plans, it was made pretty clear that sending our buddy off wasn't going to work for anyone. I wasn't sure what virtual Kindergarten would even look like, nor did we want him in front of a screen for hours in a day, so we decided I'd just take control of his learning environment and go full force homeschooling! We were so heartbroken to tell him because he has been looking forward to and asking to go for SO LONG! But he took the news like a champ and we hyped up how fun it was going to be (it helped to tell him that his favorite cousin Reece was also going to be staying home and that his favorite person Beba would be able to come over and school with us whenever we wanted).

We went with the curriculum that my mom used for us when we were younger (it's obviously been a while but I was somewhat familiar with it anyways). Full of music, animals and coloring we all knew it would fit well for him. My sister had all of the teacher equipment needed since she used it for her girls, so we were able to borrow that and just purchase his work books needed.

And on most days we have a little buddy doing his "school work" and soaking up WAY more than I anticipated (Lord help us if he is bored by the time Kindergarten actually rolls around for him).

The curriculum actually doesn't want him writing his letters or numbers yet, but I knew I wanted to add it in because we aren't sure what the future holds just yet. Will we send him off to school next year or not? If we do, I know he'll need to know his writing and we will work on reading as well. If we keep him home another year well, he'll just be that much better off! I couldn't be more proud of him.....

He is a bit of a perfectionist and does not enjoy his days when he either doesn't know something or gets something wrong. We are working on being okay with that because if we knew everything, we wouldn't be in school! LOL He's also learning that when he gets frustrated his brain shuts down and he continually gets it wrong, but if he just takes a breath and keeps trying then he VERY quickly catches on. His daddy and I are SO incredibly proud of his mind - how well he can memorize things, how fast he learns and his amazing aptitude for math already.

He will randomly brings me things like this throughout the day......

I never wanted to homeschool and I still don't think I'm cut out for it, but I sure do enjoy watching his mind 💕
