On Saturday we decided we wanted to get out and enjoy the weather. There are a BUNCH of nature trails, hiking, horseback riding, kayak tours and the list goes on and on. We settled on a place that offered horseback riding and kayak tours to go to and just do the free things, however when we got there it was going to cost us $50 just to get in. So, we got back in the car and found this cute little park right around the corner from our apartment. It had a nice little trail going around and through it and also has some tennis courts that we hope to try out soon!
HUGE trees!
love.of.my.life.
They had some cute little statues, too!
This one was called "Follow the Leader"
As we were walking through it I told Jeremy that I bet a lot of proposals happened there and to the left of this statue was a beautiful half circle surrounded by blooming trees - we decided that that's where they took place ; )
We saw a bunch of furry little friends! Jeremy wants one for a pet : )
Before we found that little park we actually went to the visitor's center and got a bunch of pamphlets and brochures with different places and maps and we found this other cool place that was 40,000 acres of swamp that they built a wooden bridge throughout that you could go and see different things like alligators!
On our way there, we saw a COTTON FIELD!
Ok, so maybe i'm being silly, but i've obviously never seen one before and I just thought it was the coolest thing ever : P
The trail into the swamp....
...literally in the middle of nowhere lol
We ended up not seeing very many animals but we got there only an hour before they closed so we didn't really have time to take our time and walk quietly and slowly and sit at the alligator lake to see if we could spot one -
definitely something we will be going back to.
BUT, we still saw some pretty cool things!
These things were EVERYWHERE and we could not figure out what they were...
we thought they were tree stumps but
couldn't figure out why they were pointed on the tops...
Come to find out they are the roots from these
huge cypress trees that come up from underground...
Lots of creatures!
Besides more furry little squirrels we only ended up seeing these little guys...
No matter how much we moved or talked this deer stood there and watched us...Jeremy said it's because she's never been shot at there lol
Something weird growing on a tree...
I'm not sure what lives there, or why there are steps going down to it....
But in the end...we were no match...
: )
